Nurse Guide on Micorbes, touching Vaccination, Antimirrcrobial Resistance and Infection Prevention.

Nurse Guide on Microbes, touching Vaccination, Anti-Microbial Resistance and Infection Prevention Control.

Over the past years most of our stakeholders -and shared their interest- on the ESNO's intention to develop a nurses guide on AMR, Vaccination and Infection Prevention Control, see more at our ESNO website and Guide. In May 2019 a focus group was established to create the guide. We were pleased with the support of Vaccine Europe and can share that we are almost ready with our 120 A4 paged Guide and also pleased to be in the stage starting the preparations for the launch event. This is scheduled on the 28 April in the afternoon during the European Immunization week.

This area of antimicrobial resistance and infection control is a key priority for us. We have seen the impact of emerging infections such as Zika, Ebola or the most recent corona-virus with the last one also already included in the guide. We are extremely aware that there is a gap in nursing education across Europe in this area of infection prevention and infectious diseases. In addition, when we aim to increase uptake of vaccination on the 75% including nurses, some assertiveness from our part in having our guide available without delay.

The ESNO guide, brings together clinical best practices to deal effectively with infections, promote vaccination and contribute to mitigate the impact of drug-resistant infections. This first edition will also kick-off learning and education activities, in fact we are already working on a professional second version we hope to publish during AMR awareness week November 2020. We aim to frame this work within the WHO / ICN / Burdett Trust 'Year of the Nurse and Midwife'.

We have had much interest already about the guide and the work and anticipate that the resource will soon require translation to other languages including French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese but are also already in the process to create a second edition to publish end of this year. We would ensure that the guide does take into account the cultural and social characteristics of nursing practice in those countries and settings. With the launch, we will also start the process towards the second edition and digital transition of the publications.

For any information or the wish to endorse and participation in the Launch event 28 April in Brussels, please contact project lead Ber Oomen at the ESNO office.
